Weather again delays rover launch
Posted: Mon, Jun 9, 2003, 2:03 PM ET (1803 GMT)
Mars Exploration Rover (NASA/JPL) For the second day in a row the threat of inclement weather forced NASA to delay the scheduled launch of the Mars rover Spirit. NASA decided Monday morning to forego two launch opportunities available 38 minutes apart Monday afternoon because weather forecasts called for thunderstorms to be in the vicinity of the launch pad. Similar weather concerns scrubbed Sunday's scheduled launch as well. NASA has rescheduled the launch for Tuesday at either 1:58:47 or 2:36:49 pm EDT (1758:47 and 1836:49 GMT). Weather conditions are forecast to be more favorable Tuesday, with only a 30 percent chance weather could delay the launch.
