Posted: Wed, Apr 21, 2004, 7:29 AM ET (1129 GMT)
Lockheed Martin A2100 satellite illustration Lockheed Martin announced Tuesday that it has won a contract to build a Japanese communications satellite. Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems will build the JCSAT-10 communications satellite for JSAT Corporation, a Japanese satellite operator. The spacecraft, an A2100AX model, will feature a hybrid payload of high-power Ku-band and medium-power C-band transponders that will serve the Asia-Pacific region from 128 degrees east longitude. Lockheed won an order for a similar satellite, JCSAT-9, last year. Terms of the contract award were not announced. Launch arrangements for JCSAT-10 were not reported, but in January JSAT awarded Arianespace contracts for the launch of JCSAT-9 and an unspecified future satellite on Ariane 5 boosters.
