Posted: Fri, Oct 28, 2005, 5:14 AM ET (0914 GMT)
A small Russian satellite launched Thursday has failed to establish contact with ground controllers, Russian media reported Friday. The Mozhayets-5 satellite was one of eight satellites launched into low Earth orbit Thursday on a Kosmos 3M booster. However, ground controllers have failed to establish contact with the satellite. Itar-Tass reported that the satellite may have failed to separate from the upper stage of the launch vehicle. Mozhayets-5 is a small satellite built by the Mozhiasky Military Space Academy in St. Petersburg and designed primarily for educational and amateur radio purposes. None of the other satellites launched Thursday on the same vehicle have experienced similar problems.
