HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Artur Davis, along with Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. today after meeting with NASA subcontractors about the proposed killing of the Ares rocket program.

Davis, D-Birmingham, said he and Battle would be meeting at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center with several companies that support NASA from Huntsville, including Boeing and ATK. Davis and Battle will get an overview from industry leaders of how President Obama's plan to kill NASA's manned space flight program would affect local contractor jobs.

Davis' news release said that more than 2,000 subcontractor jobs could possibly be cut because of the president's 2011 NASA budget request.

Battle plans to put together a task force of local leaders to work toward getting Congress to reverse the president's decision.
