It’s a great odyssey, say SHAR scientists

Successful launch of GSLV Mark III brings cheer to them

With the successful launch of the heavy GSLV Mark III rocket at Sriharikota near here on Thursday, scientists of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) and other centres of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) are confident of India making considerable progress in the commercial space launch market.

“It is an excellent day for the ISRO team. Here at the SHAR, we have been working on this rocket since February. This is the first vehicle that we have worked so long and it has given us good result,” said M.Y.S. Prasad, Director, SDSC.

The scientists expressed satisfaction at the precision launch and effectiveness of the GSLV Mark III. This vehicle was also sought to be developed as a robust and reliable rocket like the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) which had brought good recognition to the country’s space science programme.

“We had taken extreme care and precision planning for the success of the GSLV Mark-III. Today, the primary objective of the mission was to test the atmospheric performance of the vehicle and it was excellent”, said Dr. Prasad.

He said it was a great thing to happen to the country that the crew module was tested as part of the future human space programme of the Isro. The heavy rocket was conceived by K. Kasturirangan, former ISRO chairman, who also graced the Thursday’s launch at the Sriharikota centre.

Terming it as a great odyssey, the scientists said the present generation of ISRO scientists had worked hard and made sure it showed a reliable performance.

This rocket also has got the multi-mission advantage of sending satellites into the geo transfer orbit, low earth orbit, polar orbit and inter circular orbits.
