Brightman asks Lloyd Webber for song to sing in space

The singer Sarah Brightman, star of The Phantom of the Opera, is collaborating with her former husband Andrew Lloyd Webber on a song for her to perform in space.

Brightman, 54, is thought to have paid £35 million to become the second British woman to travel into space, and plans to sing a live duet with a choir back on Earth.

Lloyd Webber, who was married to Brightman between 1984 and 1990 and wrote several leading roles for her in his musicals, has been drafted in for their first musical partnership in decades. She said that she wanted something “incredibly simple” because of the technical challenges of singing on the International Space Station (ISS).
