Space pavilions inaugurated

On November 19, NES International School,Mulund, inaugurated Space Pavilions in the school building. It was inaugurated by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Govt. of India. It was indeed a moment of honour for the group.

NES-SVB group founder Dr. R. Varadarajan has always been a keen exponent of space research and has championed the cause of including space sciences in the school curriculum with a view to develop next generation space scientists in the country.

It is with this vision that he conceived the construct of space pavilions in the NESISM school building.

This vision was conceptualized with the help of ISRO scientists and experts in the field from Vikram Sarabhai Space center and has today taken the form of not one but two pavilions, The NES-ISRO space Pavilion and the Kids’ Space Pavilion (for children in the age group 3-7years). In his address to the audience, after the inaugural ceremony,Dr. Harsh Vardhan congratulated the group and said that the Space Pavilions were unique assets to the student community.

“The primary objective is to excite the scientific curiosity of young children in the most impressionable childhood age”, said Dr. Varadarajan on the occasion.He further added, “Our mission is to deliver the most fundamental knowledge at the elementary stage, so that they are equipped to build a strong super structure of space sciences based on early childhood experiences”.

Some of the features of the state-of-the art Space Pavilion include miniature models of various space crafts with relevant information, a communication station to enable real time communication with space researchers anywhere in the world, hands-on-experience exhibits and a quizzing stationin order to excite the imagination of the youngones.
