During a hearing of the US House of Representatives’ Committee on Science, Space and Technology, California Republican Dana Rohrabacher surprised NASA scientist Ken Farley with an unexpected question.
“You have indicated that Mars was totally different thousands of years ago. Is it possible that there was a civilization on Mars thousands of years ago?” he asked.
“Would you rule that out?” he later added.
“I would say that is extremely unlikely,” Farley replied.

Social media was quick to jump on the question posed by Rohrabacher. Some mocked the Congressman’s question.
Dana Rohrabacher has *definitely* watched every episode of ANCIENT ALIENS multiple times. https://t.co/yYcGKyOPOg

@billmaher It's not illegal aliens bringing down the GPA at schools and taking up the teacher's time, it's imbeciles like Dana Rohrabacher

Others supported his inquiry, encouraging more questions during committees like these.
Dana Rohrabacher shouldn’t be mocked for asking NASA if there were civilizations on Mars. GOP should ask experts more questions, not fewer.

While others marveled at Farley’s reaction.
The nice scientist who took his question didn't even giggle once, god bless him. https://t.co/eJoRPvvYHZ

I wish the NASA folk testifying before @DanaRohrabacher had, when he asked about life on mars, just answered "Yes" with a straight face.
