Thanks, NASA: Mesilla can now be found on Mars

This rock formation, named Mesilla, was recently discovered by NASA rover Opportunity.

LAS CRUCES - Mesilla is officially on Mars.

A newly discovered rock formation was named after the town as NASA's Martian rover Opportunity makes its way down the impact crater, Endeavor. Anything the rover finds along its journey to the crater floor is being named after places along the historic El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro.

The naming convention came from Larry Crumpler, one of the geologists working on the mission and a research curator at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuquerque. as he tries to enlighten the science world about the history in the southwest United States.
