After getting a first look at the Neil Armstrong biopic “First Man,” it’s hard not to get excited.

Starring Ryan Gosling as Armstrong and directed by Academy Award winner Damien Chazelle, the film promises both a look at the life of the astronaut and the mission that made him the first man on the moon.

Space has a special place in the heart of Central Floridians and it’s hard to think of better hands to entrust this story to. Chazelle won a directing Oscar for “La La Land” and each of his past two movies (“La La Land,” “Whiplash”) have earned acting Oscars for its stars (Emma Stone, J.K. Simmons).

That could be good news for 2-time Oscar nominee Gossling.

The film also stars Golden Globe winner Claire Foy (from Netflix’s “The Crown”), Emmy winner Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights”), Pablo Schreiber and Jason Clarke.

The film is scheduled to open on October 12.
