Thursday’s landing on the dark side of the moon by China’s Chang’e-4 lunar probe raises the question of how investors might profit from the commercial space race.

The global space industry is worth $350 billion, according to Morgan Stanley, an investment bank, which predicts this will increase to $1.1 trillion by 2040. However, as Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin, and Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic battle it out for interstellar glory, investors will have to be creative if they are to enjoy a slice of the action.
