Isro launches ‘cloud proof’ spy satellite

The images captured by the satellite will be used for surveillance purposes.

Chennai: The country’s space agency ISRO successfully placed into orbit a radar-imaging earth observation satellite RISAT-2B in textbook style from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota on Wednesday. This was the 72nd launch vehicle mission from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota and 36th launch from the First Launch pad.

At 5.30 a.m, the PSLV rocket standing 44.4 metres tall and weighing about 190 ton with a one-way ticket hurtled itself towards the skies ferrying the 615 kg RISAT-2B. PSLV-C46 successfully injected the satellite, RISAT2B, into an orbit of 556 kms, about 15 minutes and 25 seconds after lift-off from the first launch pad

The images captured by the satellite will be used for surveillance purposes. The new earth surveillance satellite up in the sky will send good clarity images, which will be used for agriculture, forestry and disaster management support.
