With Chandrayaan-2 entering the lunar orbit, space fever is at its height, and there is nothing better than learning about the mysterious outer space. Here are some apps to explore the space and learn about the innumerable constellations, stars and planets that make up our universe.

NASA

This app by NASA contains 16,000 images and 14,000 videos, besides the latest news and stories about space exploration. You can also watch NASA television live and view sighting opportunities from their cities. The content section has 3D planet models and information about the same. There are also 2D maps and 3D models of Earth. As a bonus, this app comes with an alternative rock radio station too. (http://bit.ly/2MuoX7i)

Solar Walk

There is no better way to describe this app than calling it a 3D planetarium in your phone. The 3D model of our solar system can be rotated and zoomed easily to get all the information about astronomy and space. This is an engaging new way to view and learn about stars, satellites, asteroids, planets and other such celestial bodies. If a particular celestial body interests you, then virtual flights allow you to explore its secrets in detail. Another feature called ‘time machine’ lets you look at what was happening in any part of the universe, at any time or date in the past. You can track all the planets and moons in real time.(http://bit.ly/2ZfvMzM)

SkyView

To use this stargazing app, all you need to do is point your phone camera at a spot in the sky and you can identify celestial objects, the International Space Station and the Hubble. It will also help you identify constellations as they fade in and out. There is a night mode feature which helps you preserve night vision by switching on red or green night mode filters. SkyView also comes with a feature of time travel which lets you see what happened during any time or day in the past. The ‘sky track’ feature lets your track a celestial body or man-made object to see its location on any date or time. The app also allows you to share the images with friends and family on social networks. (http://bit.ly/2Z27iuu)
