Forgetting Tito
The Huntsville Times published an article this week about a visit to Marshall Space Flight Center by astronauts Ken Bowersox and Don Pettit, who returned from the ISS earlier this year in a Soyuz. The article claims that "they became the first Americans to land in a foreign country in a Russian vehicle." This should prove to be a surprise to Dennis Tito, the American space tourist who landed in a Soyuz almost exactly two years earlier, after his week-long visit to ISS. What's unclear is whether this is just a slipup of the newspaper reporter (forgetting, perhaps, that not all Americans are NASA astronauts), or whether NASA is feeding reporters with imprecise, if not downright incorrect, information.
