ULA Atlas V rocket successfully blasts off following weather delays

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Update: A ULA Atlas V rocket successfully launched Friday evening following several weather-related delays.

The rocket lifted off at 7:15 p.m. on its six-hour mission to deliver USSF12 satellites into orbit.

7:37 p.m. update:

Crews with United Launch Alliance have delayed the launch of its Atlas V rocket due to poor weather at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

The launch window was open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, but weather issues at the launch site did not improve in time for launch.

The next launch attempt will be Friday starting at 6 p.m.

Channel 9 will continue to monitor the planned launch and provide updates on Eyewitness News.

United Launch Alliance is set to launch its Atlas V rocket carrying the USSF-12 mission Thursday from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

The launch time will be released closer to the launch date.

The USSF-12 mission will include two satellite payloads: the Wide Field of View Testbed spacecraft for Space Force’s Space Sensing Directorate and the USSF-12 Ring spacecraft for the Defense Department’s Space Test Program.

ULA said it forecasts a 70% chance of favorable weather conditions for the launch.

The WFOV spacecraft is designed to provide a future missile warning in orbit based on the data it collects.
