The British government is expected to announce plans to build a telescope dedicated to the search for near-Earth objects (NEOs), a British newspaper reported Sunday. An article in The Independent said the government would approve plans "early in the New Year" to build a £10 million (US$15 million) telescope that would look for NEOs that could pose a collision threat to the Earth. Construction of such a telescope was recommended in a government funded study of the NEO threat published in September. No details on the design of the telescope nor its location have been released.
