General Dynamics to buy Spectrum Astro
Posted: Thu, Mar 18, 2004, 8:31 PM ET (0131 GMT)
General Dynamics announced Thursday that it will acquire Spectrum Astro, a developer of space systems primarily for the US government. General Dynamics did not disclose how much it would pay for the privately-held company, based in Gilbert, Arizona, only that it expected the deal to close in 60 days. Spectrum Astro and its 520 employees will be integrated into General Dynamics' C4 Systems division, based in nearby Scottsdale. Spectrum Astro had built a number of spacecraft for NASA and the Defense Department, including Deep Space 1, Coriolis, GLAST, and C/NOFS, and recently completed a new spacecraft assembly facility in Gilbert. No immediate changes are planned for Spectrum Astro's workforce or facilities, a General Dynamics spokesperson told the Phoenix Business Journal.
