Posted: Mon, Nov 22, 2004, 6:37 PM ET (2337 GMT)
Boeing Boeing announced Monday that it planned to sell to L-3 Communications a business unit that makes components for satellites. Boeing will sell Boeing Electron Dynamic Devices (EDD) to L-3 for an undisclosed amount. EDD makes traveling wave tube (TWT) amplifiers for space and military applications, passive microwave devices, and electric propulsion units, such as the XIPS ion thrusters used on commercial communications satellites. Boeing will retain one EDD unit that makes spacecraft power systems. Boeing acquired EDD in 2000 as part of its purchase of Hughes Space and Communications.
