Posted: Tue, Sep 19, 2006, 7:50 PM ET (2350 GMT)
Progress spacecraft in orbit (NASA) In preparation for Wednesday's docking of a Soyuz spacecraft a Progress cargo spacecraft undocked from the ISS and reentered the Earth's atmosphere late Monday. The Progress M-56 spacecraft undocked from the aft docking port on the Zvezda service module at 8:30 pm EDT Monday (0030 GMT Tuesday) and burnt up in the Earth's atmosphere over the South Pacific a few hours later. On board the Progress was garbage and used equipment, the standard way such unneeded items are disposed of from the station. The undocking frees up the port for the arrival of the Soyuz TMA-9 spacecraft, scheduled for 1:24 am EDT (0524 GMT) Wednesday.
