Teams announced for Google Lunar X Prize

Google Lunar X Prize logo The X Prize Foundation announced on Thursday the first ten teams that will compete for the $30-million Google Lunar X Prize. Nine of the teams were revealed for the first time on Thursday; the tenth, Odyssey Moon, was announced in December. The prize, first announced last September, will give $20 million to the first privately-developed rover to land on the Moon, move a specific distance, and return a set of images, The grand prize decreases to $15 million after the end of 2012 and expires entirely two years later. The competition also includes a $5-million second prize and $5 million in bonus prizes; Space Florida announced Thursday it would provide an additional $2 million to the winning team if it launched from the state.
