Loral wins contract for Hispasat spacecraft

SS/Loral 1300 satellite illustration (SS/Loral) Space Systems/Loral has won a contract to build a new communications satellite for Spanish operator Hispasat, the company announced Wednesday. SS/L will build the Hispasat 1E spacecraft, a 1300-series spacecraft equipped with 53 Ku-band transponders and producing nearly 14 kilowatts of power. The spacecraft is scheduled to be ready for launch in 2010 and will operate from 30 degrees west in GEO, providing video services for the Americas, Europe, and North Africa.
