KSC closed for tropical storm
Posted: Tue, Aug 19, 2008, 9:31 AM ET (1331 GMT)
For the second time in two weeks a NASA center has been closed as a precaution because of an approaching tropical storm. NASA's Kennedy Space Center will be closed today as Tropical Storm Fay makes its way up the Florida peninsula, with heavy rains and strong winds. On Monday NASA decided to delay the rollover of the space shuttle Atlantis from one of the Orbiter Processing Facilities to the Vehicle Assembly Building, as part of preparations for the next shuttle mission, because of the approaching storm. Nearby Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Patrick Air Force Base will also be closed Tuesday because of the weather. Earlier this month NASA's Johnson Space Center was closed for a day and a half because of Tropical Storm Edouard.
