Northrop to merge space and aviation units

Northrop Grumman announced a corporate reorganization this week that includes the merging of its space division with one that builds aircraft. As part of the reorganization the Space Technology division will combine with the Integrated Systems division, which is responsible for a number of manned and unmanned aircraft programs, to create a new Aerospace Systems division. Gary W. Ervin, current president of the Integrated Systems division, will lead the merged division. Alexis C. Livanos, who has been in charge of the Space Technology division, will become Northrop's chief technology officer. The changes, which the company said it implemented to better align itself with its customers and to reduce its costs, took effect immediately.
