ISRO chief lauds Mars mission staff

Indian spacecraft is slated to reach Mars on September 24

Nellore: ISRO chairman Dr K. Radhakrishnan lauded the employees involved in the Mars mission that was launched on November 5, 2013 in the backdrop the spacecraft reaching its destination, Mars on September 24.

He addressed the employees of Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Shar, Sriharikota, through a teleconference on Friday. A Shar scientist said that US had commenced its space research in 1957, while India entered the field almost a decade later and launched its first mission SLV-3 in 1980.

“Now our spacecraft is going to enter the Mars orbit, 15 days before US spacecraft reaching the planet,” he said. He added that everyone in Shar is elated over the mission reaching its destination.

Meanwhile, Shar Director Dr M. Y.S. Prasad felicitated two students of IIIT, Nuzvid, at Shar on Friday for winning cash prize of Rs 6 lakh for their presentation on power generation using solar power during an international seminar in May this year. The students, Rajkumar and Krishna Bhavana, explained about their research paper to the scientists at Shar. Dr Prasad underlined the need for research on cost effective gadgets for the benefit of mankind.
