Mars? Let’s sort out life on Earth first

Sir David Attenborough has called for mankind to forget about space travel until it has fixed the problems on Earth.

The naturalist ridiculed the idea of creating a permanent human settlement on Mars, saying: “Why should we screw up the rest of the universe?”

He was speaking at the launch of Natural Curiosities, his TV series on the Watch channel. Talking about the Mars One project, which plans to send an astronaut crew to the Red Planet in 2024 funded by broadcast rights and sponsorship deals.

Sir David, 88, said. “Think of the energy it takes to put one man on Mars. Apart from that, it’s Mars — you can’t get them out within man’s lifetime.

“And why should we screw up the rest
