MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – The United Arab Emirates considers Belarus as a partner in Mars exploration, BelTA learned from Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, on 24 August.

The UAE Space Agency head said: “We plan to launch a mission to Mars. It will be the first such launch in the region. We believe that joint work with Belarus in this field will be promising.”

The Director General of the UAE Space Agency noted that the delegation had come to Minsk to discuss possible cooperation in space exploration. “Both countries have been working together in other areas for a long time and we consider space industry as a potential field of joint work with Belarus. The UAE can be considered as a central country for space technologies and space data processing in the Middle East region. The space research sector of ours is one of the region’s largest, with direct investments close to $5 billion,” he said.

Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov underlined that Belarus is interested in working together with the United Arab Emirates in space industry. “We have a national space agency of our own. I think we can talk about signing an agreement on interaction,” he concluded.

While in Belarus representatives of the UAE Space Agency visited Peleng Company. “We evaluated capabilities of this company and we liked it. Besides, we are glad to visit the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and meet with officials to discuss future cooperation between our countries,” stated Mohammed Al Ahbabi.
