Kate Rubins, a UCSD grad and NASA astronaut, visits Trump at White House
Veteran NASA astronaut Kate Rubins, who earned a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology at UC San Diego, visited the White House on Monday to sit with President Donald Trump while he conducted a ground-to-space conversation with astronaut Peggy Whitson.
Trump called Whitson aboard the International Space Station to congratulate her for breaking the U.S. record for the most accumulated time in space. Whitson surpassed a record that had stood at 534 days, two hours and 48 minutes.
Rubins, 38, is deeply familiar with the space station. She flew to the orbiting outpost in July 2016 and remained on the station until October. She spent much of that time carrying out scientific research.
