Vice President Mike Pence joined Rep. Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday for a swing through Kern County.

First was a fundraiser at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, then off to a tour of the Mojave Air and Space Port.

The vice president arrived shortly before noon in Bakersfield, flying down from Sacramento during his three-day trip to the state.

The Bakersfield political reception was closed to the press. Protesters greeted the vice president, gathering across the street from the Crystal Palace.

Pence and McCarthy then flew from Bakersfield to Mojave to tour the test center for commercial space flight. From there, Pence headed back to Washington.

Pence arrived Sunday in California. He spoke at a Republican fundraiser in Newport Beach and attended an event to discuss tax reform in Sacramento.
