Posted: Mon, Oct 7, 2002, 2:40 PM ET (1840 GMT)
Delta 4 first launch vehicle (Boeing) The inaugural Delta 4 has taken another step towards launch with the successful completion of a series of tanking tests, Boeing announced Monday. The sixth in a series of tanking tests, where the rocket is filled with liquid oxygen and hydrogen propellants, took place Friday, October 4. No problems were reported during the test, company officials said. Previous tests had encountered software problems that led Boeing to delay the launch from early October. Boeing plans to move ahead with plans for a full launch dress rehearsal and test firing of the booster’s RS-68 main engine later this month. Launch of the booster, carrying the Eutelsat W5 communications satellite, is scheduled for November 3.
