Shuttle mission enters home stretch

STS-107 patch (NASA) The crew of the space shuttle Columbia continued work on dozens of experiments as STS-107 approached the final days of its mission. Some of the experiments on the shuttle have already been completed, NASA reported Monday. Completed experiment include those that studied the structure of flames in microgravity, soil movement, and yeast and bacteria growth. Work on other experiments is scheduled to continue through late this week, and the shuttle will remain in orbit until Saturday. On Monday members of the STS-107 crew communicated with the Expedition Six crew on the International Space Station. At the time of the linkup the shuttle was over Brazil while the station was over southern Russia.
