Posted: Tue, Nov 23, 2004, 8:16 AM ET (1316 GMT)
The presidents of Brazil and Russia signed an agreement Monday outlining future cooperation between the two nations on space topics. The agreement, signed Monday in Brasilia during a visit by Russian president Vladimir Putin, offers only broad outlines of cooperation between the two nations, with no specific timetables. The agreement includes plans to modernize Brazil's Alcantara launch facility, development of communication satellites, and work on a modernized version of Brazil's small VLS-1 launch vehicle. Brazil has already been working with Ukraine to host launches of the Ukrainian Tsiklon-4 launch vehicle from Alcantara.
