ISS crew disposes of equipment during EVA
Posted: Tue, Jul 24, 2007, 6:07 AM ET (1007 GMT)
ISS EVA on 2007 July 23 (NASA) Two members of the International Space Station crew performed an EVA on Monday highlighted by the jettison of two large pieces of equipment from the orbiting outpost. NASA astronaut Clay Anderson and Russian cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin spent nearly eight hours outside the station, performing a variety of tasks. The main work involved the jettison of a 635-kilogram ammonia tank as well as nearly 100 kilograms of equipment used to mount a camera to the station, neither of which was no longer needed on the station but which also could not be returned home on the shuttle. Anderson tossed both items away from the station; a station reboost maneuver later in the day ensured that the items would not pose a risk of impacting the station in the future. The spacewalkers also installed a new camera and cleaned a docking port on the Unity module.
