Phoenix lands on Mars

Phoenix solar panel after landing (JPL/Caltech/UAz) NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander successfully touched down on the northern plains of the Red Planet Sunday afternoon. Signals from the spacecraft, relayed through the Mars Odyssey spacecraft, confirmed the landing at 7:53 pm EDT (2353 GMT), as spacecraft controllers and project officials shouted in jubilation. A little less than two hours after landing an initial set of telemetry and data was returned by the lander via Mars Odyssey, confirming that the spacecraft was in good condition and had landed in a region of flat terrain with few rocks.
