SpaceX wins contract for Israeli satellite launch
Posted: Fri, Jan 29, 2010, 6:21 AM ET (1121 GMT)
Falcon 9 on the pad (SpaceX) SpaceX, seeking to gain a foothold in the commercial GEO satellite launch market, announced this week that it won a contract to launch an Israeli communications satellite. SpaceX signed an agreement with Israeli satellite operator Spacecom for the launch of an unnamed communications satellite on a Falcon 9 no sooner than the end of 2012. Spacecom, which operates the Amos satellite fleet, is planning to launch at least four satellites in the foreseeable future to support its business. SpaceX, whose launch manifest is dominated by NASA missions to service the International Space Station, has had less success to date winning customers in the more conventional commercial launch market for GEO communications satellites.
