White House releases new national space policy
Posted: Tue, Jun 29, 2010, 7:28 AM ET (1128 GMT)
The Obama Administration issued a new national space policy on Monday, placing a greater emphasis on international cooperation and commercial space capabilities. The 18-page policy emphasizes the need for "collaborative, responsible, and constructive" use of space and calls for expanded international cooperation in space, as well as opens the door for space arms control treaties. The policy states the need for a "robust and competitive" space industrial base, and calls for greater user of commercial space capabilities by the government. The policy also reiterates the key elements of the revised NASA human space exploration plan released earlier this year.
