Boeing wins Mexican satellite order

Boeing 702HP Mexsat illustration (Boeing) Boeing announced Monday that it has won an order for three communications satellites and related items from the Mexican government. The MEXSAT system will feature two Boeing 702HP geomobile satellites for L-band mobile satellite services and one smaller satellite with a C- and Ku-band payload; that spacecraft will be built by Orbital Sciences for Boeing. Also included in the $1-billion deal are two ground sites and related systems. The deal, as well as a three-satellite award by Inmarsat earlier this year, are seen as signs that Boeing has retuned to the commercial satellite market, an area where it had not been a major player for several years.
