Posted: Thu, Jan 19, 2012, 2:17 PM ET (1917 GMT)
GRAIL illustration (NASA) NASA announced this week that it has renamed the two GRAIL spacecraft that entered orbit around the Moon at the beginning of the year. The spacecraft, originally known as simply GRAIL A and B, are now called "Ebb" and "Flow". The names, submitted by an elementary school class in Bozeman, Montana, were selected as part of a student competition to rename the spacecraft. The twin Gravity Recovery And Interior Laboratory spacecraft will map the Moon's gravity, and are also equipped with camera that will be used for educational projects.
