Enterprise passing WTC en route to Intrepid (Intrepid Museum) The space shuttle Enterprise arrived Wednesday at its new home, a former aircraft carrier turned museum in New York City. Enterprise was transported by barge up the Hudson from a dock in New Jersey to the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York, where it was hoisted onto the deck of the carrier Intrepid. Enterprise will be on public display there, inside an enclosure, starting later this summer, while the museum makes long-term plans for a permanent home for the orbiter nearby. Enterprise, which has previously been on display at the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center outside Washington, was flown to New York in late April. On Sunday it was taken by barge from JFK Airport to a dock in New Jersey, where it was transferred to another barge equipped with a crane. During Sunday's trip the orbiter's right wing brushed against a bridge abutment, causing minor cosmetic damage to the wingtip.
