SSL wins contract for Intelsat 36 satellite

Space Systems Loral announced this week that it won a contract from Intelsat to build the Intelsat 36 satellite. The spacecraft will operate over the Indian Ocean region and carry C- and Ku-band transponders, providing communications services for parts of Africa and South Asia. The spacecraft is based on SSL's 1300-series bus, although the companies did not disclose the mass or power of the planned spacecraft. Intelsat 36 will be the fourth Intelsat satellite under construction at SSL. Launch of the spacecraft is planned for 2016, although launch arrangements have not been disclosed.
