Astronomers discover asteroid from another solar system
Posted: Sun, Oct 29, 2017, 11:42 AM ET (1542 GMT)
Astronomers this week said they have discovered an object on a hyperbolic trajectory passing through the solar system, likely from another solar system. A telescope in Hawaii spotted the object a week ago, and observations indicate that the object is on a hyperbolic trajectory, coming from another solar system and passing through our own without entering orbit around the Sun. Planetary scientists initially thought the object was a comet, but follow-up observations showed no sign of a tail, indicating that it may instead be a rocky object.
