Secretary of the Air Force to step down
Posted: Sat, Mar 9, 2019, 9:05 AM ET (1405 GMT)
Wilson, Heather (USAF) Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson, who has played a key role in military space activities, will step down this spring. Wilson informed President Trump March 8 that she will be stepping down May 31 to become president of the University of Texas El Paso. Her announcement was unexpected, with most even in the Pentagon unaware she was under consideration for the university position. Wilson had, in fact, been a candidate to be the next Secretary of Defense. During her two years on the job, she worked to change how the service handles space activities, even amid planning for a separate Space Force.
