Northrop Grumman tests OmegA first stage motor
Posted: Sun, Jun 2, 2019, 10:19 AM ET (1419 GMT)
Northrop Grumman said a static-fire test of the first stage of its OmegA rocket was a success despite an apparent anomaly near the end. The company ignited the solid-propellant first stage motor at its Utah test site Thursday, firing it for 122 seconds. In the final seconds of the burn, video showed debris coming off the nozzle of the motor. Company officials said later in the day they considered it a "successful test" but acknowledged that the aft exit cone region was "doing something a little strange that we need to go further look into." That investigation won't affect plans for a static-fire test of the rocket's second stage motor, scheduled for August or September.
