The two halves of the James Webb Space Telescope have been connected for the first time. NASA said Wednesday that the observatory's telescope element, which includes mirrors and instruments, was attached to the spacecraft bus and sunshield at a Northrop Grumman facility in California. The combined telescope will now undergo further environmental testing before being shipped to its launch site in French Guiana, where it will launch on an Ariane 5 in March 2021.
