Capella to launch radar satellite on Electron
Posted: Sat, Mar 7, 2020, 10:38 AM ET (1538 GMT)
Rocket Lab Electron launch of DARPA R3D2 (Rocket Lab) Rocket Lab will launch a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite for Capella this year. The companies announced the contract Thursday for a launch in the middle of this year, carrying a single SAR imaging satellite on an Electron rocket. The launch will place the spacecraft into a medium inclination orbit, one not previously used by SAR satellites but which Capella says can provide better coverage of some areas of interest. Capella launched a demonstration satellite in late 2018 and will have another satellite, called Sequoia, launched late this month as a secondary payload on a SpaceX Falcon 9.
