Posted: Fri, Jul 16, 2021, 7:13 PM ET (2313 GMT)
NASA finalized a contract with Northrop Grumman to build the first habitation module for the lunar Gateway. The agency said Friday it issued a $935 million fixed firm-price contract to Northrop for the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) module. NASA had been working with the company for nearly two years on a contract for the module, which will serve as a habitat and docking node for the Gateway orbiting the moon. HALO will launch with another Gateway module, the Power and Propulsion Element, in late 2024 on a Falcon Heavy.
