China launches imaging satellite

China launched a high-resolution imaging satellite Nov. 19. A Long March 4B rocket lifted off from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center at 8:51 pm EST (0151 GMT) and placed the Gaofen-11 (03) satellite into orbit. Gaofen satellites form the civilian China High-resolution Earth Observation System, but details about some Gaofen satellites, like the Gaofen-11 series, have not been released. One report claimed Gaofen-11 has the capability to return optical imagery at a resolution of around 10 centimeters, comparable with American reconnaissance satellites.
