First JWST images released

Astronomers were enthusiastic and relieved by the first science observations from the James Webb Space Telescope. The observations, released Tuesday, included detailed images of a nebula created by a dying star and another where new stars are formed, along with an image of a galactic cluster and spectra of an exoplanet that revealed the presence of water in its atmosphere. Astronomers said the results exceeded their expectations and demonstrated the potential of JWST to revolutionize astronomy. It was also a relief to many involved in the project for years or even decades, overcoming years of delays and billions of dollars in cost overruns.
