VP Harris calls for revision of commercial space regs

Vice President Kamala Harris said Aug. 12 the government would work to revise "simply outdated" commercial space regulations. In a brief speech in Oakland, California, Harris said the government needed to revise existing regulations to address innovation in the industry. She did not go into details about the proposed changes to regulations, but one possible area is determining which agency will provide authorization and supervision for emerging space applications, like in-space servicing, not handled by existing regulations. The issue will be discussed at the next meeting of the National Space Council, scheduled for Sept. 9.
