China launched a communications satellite early Thursday. A Long March 3B lifted off at 6:23 am EST (1123 GMT) from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center and placed the ChinaSat-6E (Zhongxing-6E) into a geostationary transfer orbit. The spacecraft, part of a series to replace aging GEO satellites, will take over the radio and television broadcasting role of the ChinaSat-6B satellite launched in July 2007 and positioned at 115.5 degrees east.
