NASA rocket launch cancelled again
WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. – For the second time in less than a week, NASA and Northrop Grumman have cancelled their Antares rocket launch.
The launch was originally scheduled for Sunday, February 9th, but there was a problem with a fuel valve. The second attempt was scheduled for Friday, February 14th at 3:43 pm. However, due the launch was canceled around 2 p.m. due to high winds in the area.
There’s about 75-hundred pounds of research, crew supplies and hardware aboard the spacecraft. Officials say they’re determined to try again on Saturday, in order to get these much needs items to the astronauts aboard the International Space Station.
“We scrubbed today’s Antares launch because the upper atmosphere winds are about 160 miles per hour. Our commitment is to get this payload up to the crew on the Space Station and get it there safely. So their Valentine’s treats are going to have to wait one more day but we’ll get it there,” says Trina Patterson with Northrop Grumman.
NASA will try to launch the rocket again on Saturday, February 15, around 3:21 pm. They say the weather looks favorable right now but they do have another chance to launch on Sunday if things don’t go as planned on Saturday.
